Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Our team only backfills in Colombia

It’s all US managers with increasingly international teams. We have no “bench” if anyone in the US leaves, which is vital since those of us in the US are doing more complex work and in other countries it’s more backoffice tasks.

Theres no longterm strategy. We’re all in on the short term profits boosts. It’s gonna bite us longterm, but the executives making those decisions will cash out and be long gone by then.

With finance running the company, the cheapest cost of labor will always win out, regardless of qualification. Shared service centers convert people from customer service to do complex strategy work and it inevitably fails.

@ah no. Ever heard of a reverse transition because work was transitioned to a team that was completely unqualified to do it? Labor is just cheaper

@bp

Whoever had the bright idea of outsourcing jobs to other countries will be gone with a golden parachute by the time the reprocussions of low quality of work appears.
